Looking Back: DeepGreen User Meeting at BiblioCon 2026 in Berlin
This year’s DeepGreen user meeting took place on May 21, 2026, as part of BiblioCon 2026 in Berlin, and we were delighted that 13 people attended.
As in previous years, the meeting began with a presentation on the current status. Julia Boltze-Fütterer from KOBV provided an overview of the developments from the past year and reported that DeepGreen will remain free of charge in 2027 as well. Dr. Kathrin Behrens from the Bavarian State Library reported on current and planned publisher collaborations.
The second part of the event focused on the future of the licensing landscape in Germany. Dr. Hildegard Schäffler, department head at the Bavarian State Library and licensing expert, presented various scenarios for how the licensing landscape might develop in the future and what role DeepGreen could play in this context. Afterward, participants were asked to use sticky dots to rate how likely or unlikely they found the presented scenarios. They were also asked to write down, on the one hand, where they see their repository in 5–10 years, and on the other hand, where DeepGreen could provide support in the future. This preliminary work sparked an engaging discussion about whether repositories are secure data havens and how important they are becoming. Tonka Stoyanova from FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg moderated the discussion.
We would like to thank everyone who participated and look forward to seeing you again next year!
