Two new functional enhancements for DeepGreen: Institutional identifiers and date filter for the routing history

We are very pleased to announce two new and long-awaited functional enhancements to the DeepGreen data hub. It is now possible to add institutional identifiers to the affiliation file of the repository accounts and to filter the routing history by date.

Institutional Identifier

In addition to name variations, domains and funding abbreviations, DeepGreen now also takes RoR and Ringgold IDs into account when matching publications.

With this enhancement, we want to make the matching process even more accurate in the future. Currently, institutional identifiers are not stored in the publisher data across the board.

We will use this functional enhancement to promote more institutional identifiers in the publisher metadata to publishers.

Routing history date filter

It is now also possible to filter the routing history in the repository accounts by date and thus view all articles in the routing history in stages. Until now, the display was limited to 10,000 articles, which posed challenges for repositories with many deliveries. Now, by specifying a start and end date, it is possible to determine the exact period for which the routing history notifications should be displayed. This period can then be downloaded as a CSV file.

The Routing History date filter can also be used via the Web API.

 

Looking back: Open Access Days 2024 in Cologne

Exciting Open Access days are behind us and we would like to thank everyone for the interesting discussions at the DeepGreen poster.

Together with the participants of the poster session, we considered whether DeepGreen can also be used to mine diamonds. The aim of our poster was to engage with the community and find out whether Diamond Open Access is also a relevant topic for DeepGreen.

The Enter Award 2024 in the Infrastructure Category Goes to DeepGreen

On Wednesday, July 3. 2024, at an award ceremony in Berlin, juror Lambert Heller presented the trophy for the Enter Award 2024 in the infrastructure category to the DeepGreen project. The Enter Award is a nationwide prize for Open Access, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and implemented by iRights.Lab. It honors those who make research freely accessible: scientists, research institutions, libraries, museums, archives, repositories and other committed individuals. The prize was awarded for the first time in 2024.

The jury explained their decision as follows: “The automated delivery service for journal articles is revolutionizing the sustainable dissemination of scientific publications. Publisher articles are delivered to digital archives on a license basis.” The Cooperative Library Network Berlin-Brandenburg (KOBV), the Bavarian State Library (BSB) and the University Library of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) are responsible for the pilot operation of DeepGreen. The delivery service benefits not only the 13 publishers and 86 repositories currently participating, but also the authors, for whom the libraries take over the publication of the articles in institutional and subject repositories in open access, and consequently the scientific public as a whole. More than 100,000 articles have already been distributed to repositories through DeepGreen.

We are very pleased about the award and the public appreciation of our work.

DeepGreen on the shortlist for the Enter Award

We are delighted that DeepGreen has made it onto the shortlist for the Enter Award!

The Enter Award is presented by iRights.Lab and honors initiatives that are committed to open access to research. DeepGreen is now on the shortlist in the “Infrastructure” category. The announcement of the winners and the award ceremony will take place on July 03, 2024.

Technical enhancements: Display ISSNs in the repository account

There is now a new technical development in the DeepGreen router. Repositories can now display the ISSNs they receive from the individual publishers in their DeepGreen account.
Clicking on “View License” after one of the licenses in the filter opens an ISSN list with the information “Title”, “Publisher”, “Embargo”, “EZB-ID”, “Print ISSN” and “E ISSN”.

It is also possible to display the list as a json record.

Looking back: DeepGreen user meeting at the BiblioCon 2024 in Hamburg

The DeepGreen user meeting took place on June 5, 2024 at BiblioCon 2024 in Hamburg and was well attended with 20 participants.

At the beginning of the user meeting, the current status was presented and an outlook on new publishing cooperations and technical developments was given. This year’s special topic was a brief introduction to Diamond Open Access and possible uses for DeepGreen. Afterwards, the users had time to exchange ideas. Three groups were formed for this purpose: a group for OPUS repositories, a group for DSpace and a group for MyCoRe, EPrints and in-house developments. The opportunity to exchange ideas was well used and current challenges were discussed.

DeepGreen user meeting at the BiblioCon 2024 in Hamburg

This year’s DeepGreen user meeting will take place on 05.06.2024 from 11-12:30 in room A.2/1.OG at BiblioCon 2024 in Hamburg.

It will begin with an update and a presentation of the technical innovations. As a special topic, there will be a short input presentation followed by a discussion on Diamond Open Access and possible uses for DeepGreen. Finally, users will have the opportunity to discuss current topics in small groups.

New Functional Enhancements for Administration

At the end of December 2022, two new functional enhancements were added to the DeepGreen production system. They will facilitate the work of the DeepGreen employees and are not visible to users.

The first function will simplify license management. From now on, it is possible for the administrators to enter and manage the license and participant lists in the graphical interface of the DeepGreen router. A history function makes it now possible to document the different versions of the license and subscriber lists and to track the activity of the license lists.

The second function is a search function for notifications, which has also been implemented in the graphical user interface of the DeepGreen router. The DeepGreen administrators can now trace processed articles and find out whether an article was indeed delivered by the publisher.
